Defibrillator Training Course a success!

1374075_10151951555118919_249876018_n

Mrs McIlvaney receives the Defibrillator Machine on behalf of the academy.

GMAC Martial Arts held a life-saving Heart Start Course & Defibrillator training October, which was attended by over 30 students, parents & instructors.  The course was run in conjunction with the British Heart Foundation, and Scottish Ambulance Service.  The four-hour course covered life saving skill and how to administer emergency aid if someone suffers a cardiac arrest, via the use of a Defibrillator.

In June 2013 GMAC helped to organise a fundraising competition in aid of fellow Instructor Mr. Patrick Timoney who unfortunately fell ill during his Black Belt Grading and suffered a heart attack in November 2012.  The competition was held earlier this year to honour Mr. Timoney’s life and to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation as well as purchase Defibrillator (A.E.D. machines) to be given to each TKD association in Scotland.  With the success of the competition Mr. Timoney’s family were able to purchase six of these life-saving machine’s one of which will be kept in our Taekwon-Do gym in Livingston.

Fundraising Walk – Chatelheralt Country Park 9th March 2013

On Saturday 9th March a fundraising walk will take place at Chatelherault Country Park to raise funds for new equipment. The event will be a great excuse for a free family day out, with the added benefit of getting some fresh air and exercise at the same time.

Chatelherault Country Park is an excellent park with great nature trails, a visitor centre, an adventure play park for the kids and a cosy tea room for those in need of a cuppa after the exertions of their walk.

We would recommend that everyone wears a waterproof jacket, warm layers and either walking boots or wells as it can get muddy! The challenge is open to everyone and there are two options, one for more experienced walkers and one for families with kids.

We hope you, your friends and family can join us on 9th March 2013. the meeting point is the visitor centre in the park at 10am. Please ensure you and your party have completed and returned their registration form to Lorna or Kirsty by Thursday 7th March. Their is no participation fee for taking part, we just as that you fundraise for the club – every penny counts.

For more information contact Lorna Singleton or Kirsty McCourt.

Walk Option 1

For those of you looking for a challenge then join us for the Green Bridge Trail. This trail is 8k long with an average walking time of 3 hours. We would suggest that teenagers and adults take this route but it may not be suitable for small children.

Walk Option 2

For families with small children or those who are a bit unsure about the Green Bridge Trail then why not join us on the Cadzow Oaks Trail which is approx. 40 mins (maybe slightly longer with very young children).

Scottish Taekwon-Do UK Tournament

imagesDear Masters/Instructors /Students

On behalf of the Taekwon-Do UK executive, it gives me great pleasure to invite you to attend our Scottish Goodwill Open Championships.  This Taekwon-Do event is open to coloured belt and Black belt competitors and is designed to unite TKD schools through our Martial Art of Taekwon-Do.  These championships are a continuation of our successful International event held at Edinburgh three years ago with a big emphasis on fair play and light contact for competitors especially junior divisions to encourage scoring points rather than causing injury to your respected opponent.

Please note that as this is a goodwill event and we want each division to be as fair as possible, all junior categories will be designed on age, weight and height to keep physical and mental development as even as possible so please fill out entry forms correctly.  Weigh in will commence prior to the sparring division starting.

I very much look forward to your attendance and promise as always I will help in any way that I can to ensure that your competition is a very enjoyable one.  If anyone requires assistance with accommodation, entry forms, travel, party or any other aspect of our Taekwon-Do UK event, then please do not hesitate to contact me direct.

Associations are encouraged to submit referee’s at this event.

Good luck at these championships

Mr David Condie

Membership Cards New for 2013

New for 2013

GMAC are introducing Membership Cards for all students from February 2013.

These new cards will be used to primarily record attendance at all class sessions, and extra black belt sessions, gradings etc.  Each student will receive their own photographic ID membership card, along with a card holder, which will be individual you.  On arrival at class/training you will be able to scan your ID card, which will register you for the session (similar to a gym membership card).

During Gradings the membership cards will also record your grading records, history and achievements, as well as many other records that are used throughout your martial arts training i.e. competition history.

If you have not yet had your picture taken by your instructor, this will be done over the next few weeks, and the cards distributed to each member by Mid-February.
