Defibrillator Training Course a success!

Mrs McIlvaney receives the Defibrillator Machine on behalf of the academy.

GMAC Martial Arts held a life-saving Heart Start Course & Defibrillator training October, which was attended by over 30 students, parents & instructors.  The course was run in conjunction with the British Heart Foundation, and Scottish Ambulance Service.  The four-hour course covered life saving skill and how to administer emergency aid if someone suffers a cardiac arrest, via the use of a Defibrillator.

In June 2013 GMAC helped to organise a fundraising competition in aid of fellow Instructor Mr. Patrick Timoney who unfortunately fell ill during his Black Belt Grading and suffered a heart attack in November 2012.  The competition was held earlier this year to honour Mr. Timoney’s life and to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation as well as purchase Defibrillator (A.E.D. machines) to be given to each TKD association in Scotland.  With the success of the competition Mr. Timoney’s family were able to purchase six of these life-saving machine’s one of which will be kept in our Taekwon-Do gym in Livingston.

Self Defence Seminar – Improvised Defensive Weapons with Mr Mark Davies 16th Nov

1266340_10151954671543919_820377837_oOn Sunday 16th November GMAC Martial Arts are holding a Tactical Edge Improvised Weapons Seminar with Mr Mark Davies in Livingston from 12 noon to 5pm.

“We are ‘tool using apes’.  You wouldn’t try to strip down an engine using just your fingers, you would use tools.  So why do people treat self defence differently?  On this seminar we’ll explore the use of everyday items as defensive tools.  You’ll need to bring a couple of things with you; a magazine, a dog leash/bandana/length of rope (we’ll supply the other items).  The methods we’ll cover will slot right into whatever style you currently practice.”
Please contact Mr McIlvaney to book your space, or add yourself to the Facebook event page.  Cost of the seminar is £20.00

North East Challenge Cup – Rescheduled to 17th November

Dear Masters and Instructors,

2013 – North East Challenge Cup

It is with great pleasure that you and your students are invited to the 2013 North East Challenge Cup on Sunday 17th November 2013 at Saltire Leisure Centre, 55 Montrose Road, Arbroath DD11 5JN.

This competition is open to Taekwon-do and Korean Kickboxers. There will be four individual and one team event contested, Patterns, Sparring Special Technique, Power Test and new for 2013 Pre-Arranged Free Sparring. We hope it is going to be a success as it can only improve our students knowledge and technique.

This championships is open to all students white belt and above and will be split into six age groups Juniors up to 8yrs; 9-12 yrs, Teens 13-14; 15-17yrs, Adults 18-35yrs and 36yrs and over.

The competition will be run as per ITF rules but with some small amendments to accommodate age and competitor level.

We will endeavour to separate competitors from the same school competing against each other in initial rounds, thus improving the experience of all students. Juniors will be divided initially by age, then grade and height criteria. Teens and Adults will be categorised initially by age then, grade and weight. The weight divisions upper and lower limits will established according to the weight spread of the entries.

Please ensure, for the safety of the sparring competitors, that weights are checked and personally verified by the responsible instructor before forwarding them for processing.

New for 2013 is our double elimination sparring event for teens and adults.

Entry forms should be part of this invitation so if they are not present please let me know by email and I will forward them on.

(Please check all details before sending to ensure that registration runs as smooth as possible)

We look forward to your entries and to another great tournament,
